How to choose: Remotes and control hubs
IR remotes. A Wi-Fi infrared remote learns or looks up the codes of devices that came with an infrared remote, such as TVs, air conditioners and fans, so you can run them from your phone or by voice. It needs a clear line of sight to each device, so one remote covers one room.
Zigbee hubs. A Zigbee gateway links Zigbee sensors, buttons and switches to your Wi-Fi and your phone. Zigbee devices don't join Wi-Fi themselves, so they need a hub that works with their app; the product page says which app each hub uses.
Smart buttons. A smart button runs a scene you set in the app, such as lights off and curtains closed, with a single, double or long press.
