What it does
The Unitree Dex5-S dexterous hand gives a robot arm 22 degrees of freedom, built close to true human hand size. Older, bulky hands could not take on fine, intricate jobs, so the task had to be simplified to suit the hand. This one grips, turns and places small parts at the end of the arm, and it carries up to 2 kg per hand while it does. Textured fingertips and a textured palm hold the object while each joint moves it where you want it.
The Unitree Dex5-S is a five-fingered robotic hand built for complex, intricate manipulation at the end of a robot arm. Each hand has 22 degrees of freedom, so the thumb and fingers bend through the joints the way a person's do. It carries up to 2 kg per hand and handles 1 kg of continuous working payload, which covers small parts, fixtures and light tools on a bench. The fingertips and palm are textured to hold smooth parts while the joints move them into place.
The hand mounts at the wrist. The grey metal wrist and forearm joint module at the back of the hand is the mounting end, and the hand sits on the end of a robot arm. From there the arm positions the hand and the 22 degrees of freedom do the fine work: gripping, turning and placing. When a joint motor takes an extreme external impact, the impact protection structure shields the gears from damage across all 22 DoF, and the hand is built to keep training going without overtemperature alarms stopping a run.
The Dex5-S suits robotics teams and builders working on manipulation tasks and training with a real arm. It is not a glove worn over a human hand, it does not stand on a bench on its own, and it is not wired to a phone or run from a phone app. If your work needs a hand that reaches into human-sized spaces and handles intricate parts, this is the form factor for it. If you need a device you put on your own hand or plug into a wall, this is not it.

- 22 joints of movement in one handThe Dex5-S has 22 DoF per hand, so the thumb and fingers bend through the joints the way a person's do. That is what lets a dexterous robot hand pick up a small part, turn it and set it down in one motion instead of nudging it across the bench.
- Carries up to 2 kg at peakEach hand handles up to 2 kg payload and 1 kg of continuous working payload. It holds a part or a small tool while the arm moves it, and keeps holding through a long run of repetitive work.
- Built close to true human hand sizeThe Dex5-S takes on far more complex, intricate tasks than the bulky dexterous hands of the past. It is built closer than ever to true human hand size, so the work does not have to be rebuilt around the shape of the hand.
- Gears protected when a joint takes a hitWhen a joint motor takes an extreme external impact, an impact protection structure shields the gears from damage. All 22 DoF are protected, so a hard knock on one joint does not strip the gears behind it.
- Training runs without overtemperature stopsThe hand is built to keep working without overtemperature alarms interrupting a training session. Repetitive runs on the arm keep going instead of stopping for the hand to cool down.

Questions
Can I wear it as a glove on my own hand?
No. The Dex5-S is a dexterous robotic hand that mounts at the wrist end of a robot arm. The wrist and forearm joint module at the back of the hand is the mounting end, so it is built for an arm, not to be worn.
How much weight can it hold?
It handles up to 2 kg of payload per hand and 1 kg of continuous working payload. Use 2 kg for a short lift and 1 kg when the hand holds an object through a longer run of work.
Is it sized like a human hand for a humanoid robot hand build?
Yes. The Dex5-S is built closer than ever to true human hand size, which suits a humanoid robot hand where the fingers and thumb need to work in the same spaces a person's hand does.
Is it controlled from a phone app?
No. It is not wired to a phone and it is not run from a phone app. The hand works on a robot for complex, intricate manipulation tasks and for training runs.
What protects the joints if it hits something?
When a joint motor takes an extreme external impact, the impact protection structure shields the gears from damage. All 22 DoF are protected by that structure.
Will I pay anything when it arrives?
Any duties or customs charges are paid by you on delivery.
