To fill it, lift the clear bottle out of the tower, fill it, and set it back on the base. The food version works the same way: lift the opaque lid, tip in kibble, and put the lid back. Each unit stands free on a floor or a table, with the tower upright at one end of the tray. It is not built to hang on a wall or a cage, and the tower never sits flat or lower than the bowl.
